Relax. I do this all the time…
Project Azorian: “the most complex, expensive, and secretive intelligence operations of the Cold War”
Project Azorian: just one of the many fasinating ways the CIA secretly, and illegally, spent billions of taxpayer dollars during the Cold War. What’s amazing is that, raising the K-129 from the bottom of the Pacific (3 miles deep!), was almost as much of an engineering achievement as landing a man on the moon… except this technological endeavor was kept completely hidden from the public, the media, and, most importantly, the Soviets! And how does one cover up “the most complex, expensive, and secretive intelligence operations of the Cold War”? Why, just ask eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes to throw his name on it! Hell, he’ll even let you park the thing next to the Spruce Goose down in Long Beach. Amazingly, the Soviet ambassador in Washington warned his comrades back in Russia numerous times that the CIA was attempting to raise their sunken nuclear submarine… their response: “Impossible! The American’s wouldn’t even bother!” Ha! Read more about Project Azorian here! And here’s the trailer for Azorian: The Raising of the K-129… a great documentary on the subject:

I’ve suddenly become obsessed with www.retronaut.co. I can lose myself for hours there, my imagination running wild. Today’s adventure: Italian Motorcross Riding 1971-1974 (and why not? Looks pretty awesome to me.) View the full gallery here.
