Melanie
he wonders how the 19 year old kid apatecipres it, is he thinking the kid’s here because he has heard the hype about Berghain & shouldn’t be? Or is he just curious about the kid liking techno? Surely there are clued up kid’s out there who like the sound, have done there homework & travelled to Berlin to hear this kind of music being played. Is this a bad thing? I think not. I’m sort of seeing it as more of an environmental thing. The appeal of this kind of techno has a larger foothold with young Europeans than it does Stateside. Reading these reviews and accounts of parties in places like Italy, Germany, and Romania it seems like most of the crowd is of these teenagers. I could raise the issue of the (non)acceptance of this music in America, but I’ll leave that for another time.I first heard about the whole Berghain/Panoramabar when Cassy’s Panoramabar CD came out, so I would have been just 16 then. I looked into the artists and researched the club and discovered a lot of information about the Berlin scene. I liked how the sound was away from what was normal’ or expected of someone my age. For me, the process of learning was entirely insular, based on the accounts of others, as there was no way I would be able to get to Berlin. However, I didn’t feel that I needed to actually go to the Berghain and experience what it was like to really enjoy it, or get’ it, I was happy listening to this at home, in my own sphere. I mean, I hope to go to the Berghain/Panoramabar some time in the future, but it’s not the hype that appeals to me, I just know that they have a built up a good reputation for music that I’ll enjoy.
What a great night, but IMHO Jeff’s performance was not as good as Fred’s. Hell, that was lereadngy, 3 hours dancing like crazy actually sucked all life out of me. I’ve attended very few gigs which had such a massive load of pure energy. Not to talk about Santiago’s set, amazing vibes.

Your cranium must be protecting some very valuable brains.
