KICK-ASS_why I won’t go see it
So a few of my friends (Stewart, Catie, and I’m sure Hack Riven is on his way back from the movie theater right now) are all a gush over Kick-Ass. They loved the film and, unsurprisingly, some of my favorite critics favor the film as well. So why exactly am I boycotting this film? Because the writing/directing duo behind the film seem like jerks. Seriously. Pompous, self-righteous jerks. And I don’t know about you but I can’t stand seeing assholes like that win.

HACK RIVEN_into my heart
Sometime today Hack Riven sent me this YouTube video:
He texted it to me. It wasn’t an email, or a Facebook post. He didn’t come across it on twitter. It was a text. There was no explanation why. There was no story to go along with it. Just the link, which I immediately watched on my phone. And, though I found the video strangely amusing, I may have been more entertained at the randomness of its arrival. Hack Riven and I never text each other links… let alone videos… let alone animations of bands being screwed over by promoters. Neither Hack Riven nor myself are in a band… so it’s not like this is a situation we’ve ever been in (or been in recently.) Hack Riven works in the music scene, so to speak… perhaps that’s it? I listen to music… is that the catch? You can see my confusion… and why I find this video so intriguing. I could have texted Hack Riven a quick WTF… but I opted to sit on it. I figured I’d let it bounce around in the back of my mind until something, some purpose came to me… and then I got it. I’ll just blog about the damn thing. DONE.
DAN BLACK_music I stumbled across
I always like stumbling across new music that I enjoy. More often than not, it’s an artist I’ve never heard of. Sometimes I find them listening to Sirius radio (Alt Nation and/or The Verge) late at night when they stop playing the mainstream stuff and start throwing in some of the new crap. This past week I discovered Dan Black. Some of you might know him: he’s British, does a lot of mash ups, total pop (which I’m cool with – as long as it doesn’t annoy me), and from what I heard I figured he’d be worth checking out. His album, UN, left me a bit cold at first but, after a few listens, I warmed up to it. The big single is Symphonies… which if you haven’t heard yet you can expect to soon. I like it, obviously. That’s why I’m writing about it. That and I’m a sucker for strings. Check it out for yourself… (note: this music video is terrible! What were they thinking?! LOL)
Anyway, the album, overall, is decent. It’s more of the same so if you like Symphonies it’ll make your day. Karate Kid is another good track… with an awesome title (until the Jaden Smith remake comes out. Barf.)
IRON MAN 2_angst
I keep telling myself that something is going to come along and motivate me to blog about it… but nothing’s really sparking my interest. What gives? You’d think I’d be more excited about Iron Man 2. Then again, I never was really excited about the first one. It was a great movie, don’t get me wrong, and it kicked off one of the best blockbuster movie summers ever (The Dark Knight) but so far, though I’ll undoubtedly go see it, I’m just not that excited about the sequel. The trailers are entertaining, Downy looks chum, and Paltrow is as hot as ever (I’ve never been able to explain my attraction to her… everybody else in the world seems to hate her.) On the other hand, I’m not so sure about Mickey Rourke or Scarlett Johansson. Both of their characters look like jokes. Have you seen Rourke’s cockatoo yet? Word on the street is that the cockatoo sealed the deal on his contract. No cockatoo, no Rourke. Yes, I’m serious.
Sam Rockwell is cool though. No doubt about it.

Thoughts?
PREDATORS_the teaser trailer
So Hack Riven called me out… I haven’t posted in a while. I’ll spare you the excuses, instead I’ll write about a topic I’ve posted about a few times before (here, here, and here.) That topic is Predators. The teaser trailer hit the interwebs earlier this week and it’s amazing I’ve kept my mouth shut about it until now especially considering this is one of few movies I’m looking forward to (and by “looking forward to” I mean nitpicking everything about the movie until it’s release… whereupon I probably won’t even go see it. Ha!) Anyway, here’s the trailer…
THE SHELTER_a short story
Another of my short stories, The Shelter, has been published… this time, in the always entertaining The Legendary! Please head over there and take a look! As always, I love to hear feedback — so if you love it or hate it, let me know! And if you haven’t already, you can find a few more of my stories here. Thanks for reading!
